INTERNATIONAL ARTIST OF THE WEEK: RAYE
Our friends from across the pond are known for invading our airwaves with their eclectic sounds, and UK pop singer/songwriter Raye is plotting her domination. 2015 is shaping up to be a big year for the 17-year-old Brit School student. Off the strength of her critically praised 2014 EP Welcome to Winter and her songwriting chops, she’s signed a major deal with Polydor Records,(home to Ellie Goulding, James Blake, and The 1975) opened for the dominating synth pop trio Years & Years, and been compared to none other than Rihanna. Her sultry voice floats over crisp and droning production on “Alien” and she adds layers to UK summer smash “Shine” by lablemates Years & Years. Keep and ear out for this voice because you’ll be hearing it everywhere soon.
A short story my dear mother told me when i was a kid:
“There was once an old man that found a very young girl playing on the streets of thailand. He liked her so much that the old man took her home!”(speaking in native hmong language and in a shocked of voice)
I never understood what my mother meant then but i think i know now since i’ve reached maturity.
